I finally found a good Cantonese restaurant with beef stew and beef chow fun! I always love to eat beef stew and there are not many restaurants in Milpitas or San Jose that I can find on yelp. I used to go to Tong Kee in Ranch 99 Plaza Milpitas but they are gone. And I forgot that Hong Kong Chef was in Fremont. We ate at the restaurant and it was not crowded at 7 pm Friday night. We could sit anywhere and we were hungry! For the beef stew, it had great flavor and an ok amount of guylan. The amount of beef was about 7-8 pieces with one big gristle and the meat was tender. They put a lot of rice because the bowl is so big and I didn't finish the rice...more beef please. =) The chow fun serving was huge because it filled the bowl and my 13yo daughter couldn't finish. LOL I had a few bites and it was pretty good. Enough leftovers for 2 more meals. I'll be going back for my next Cantonese craving.

Visited the restaurant for the first time since Covid and really missed it! I always thought the food was tasty, and with great portions. And the food is always tender and juicy! The service is quick, and the restaurant is actually one of the cleanest Chinese spots I've ever seen! Lol Definitely coming back again for their claypots!

Stumbled across this restaurant after finding another restaurant I wanted to go to closed early. Despite being close to closing, they were able to seat us and feed us. Ordered the roast pork belly, the crab & fish maw soup, deep fried chitterlings (intestines), Macao style rice noodle rolls, and steamed clams. The roast pork belly was nice and crispy, and not overly salty. The fish and crab maw soup was great, and I ended up wolfing a bowl down before remembering to take pictures. Deep fried chitterlings are hard to find at restaurants and is always a delight when a restaurant serves it. They're by far my favorite small bite at Hong Kong restaurants. I've had rice rolls, but the Macau-style rice rolls were unfamiliar to me before eating here. They served as a good alternative to the regular ol' white rice. They were served with peanut sauce and hoisin sauce, which I've never done with rice rolls before. The steamed clams are also a rare offering and I was glad to see them offered here. The steamed egg and sauce overly pooled on one side for some reason, but the dish was great & not overly salty. This was a great restaurant to find on a whim and I'd be down to go here again next time I'm in Fremont.

Food is good. Pricing is a bit higher than I'm used to, but I can't cook these dishes. If you can, talk with the team and see what they recommend. I'm sure you'll find a few gems.

Hong Kong chef is a really good Chinese restaurant. The only draw back is for quantity of food you get, the the price is on the high side. Again, I do not know the monthly lease cost, so it might be the reason for the higher cost per dish. Beef Chow Fun - 4/5 The beef chow fun was very good. I love the taste of a seasoned wok that imparts to the chow fun. The chow fun noodles on the soft side. I prefer the texture to be a little firmer. We asked not to have bean sprouts mixed in, so the chef surprisingly substituted Chinese broccoli in the chow fun. Cudos to the chef! BBQ Platter 2 Items - 4/5 The chicken was good, but the ginger sauce could have more. The pig was tasty, and the hoisin sauce was good. I wish they could have added oyster sauce too. String Bean in Dry Garlic - 5/5 A very delicious veggie dish. The beans were cooked perfectly and the flavor of garlic and seasoned wok made this dish stand out. Hong Kong chef is a great place to dine if you're in the mood for Chinese food.

Came with a group of 8 to this Chinese restaurant. In addition to the regular menu, we were offered the family style menu (wo choy) which gives a fixed price for a banquet style meal. We chose the the $268 and was sooo impressed. The portions were extremely generous. Loved the Mixed Plate which has bean curd, bbq pork, roast duck which was all so flavorful. The lobster dish came with two lobster. Loved the deep fried flounder. It was fried so nicely that you could eat the fins This was an amazing menu. And with just eight people, we had a lot of leftovers. I'm ready to return!
